People in Malaysia looks forward for holidays...
For one reason.. Holidays!!
True enough.. But As Malaysian, do we really celebrate it??
However the writer looks forward for Chinese New Year..
Knowing he's an Indian Guy.. But what's the harm in celebrating it?
Call him mad or watsoever, He actually looks forward for chinese new year..
All the Yee Sangs,
All the oranges... Even though he doesn't take em...
Everything will be red and gold!
And not forgetting the Angpaws being received from certain people who treats him as family
The thing which writer doesn't understand is that
Why doesn't many people really celebrate Chinese New Year??
In sense which people goes house visiting and so on..
No Doubt where they don't actually serve u food and they tend to gamble on that special occasion!
Can't blame them right...
But who cares...
Ask the kids these days " Have you been to a Chinese House on a New Year day?"
Answer will be "NO"
Why people are being so held up to the kids...
The writer used to be so excited when comes to open houses
(Eventhough he has attended one in Banting by the minister)
It's all about culture is the writer is concern about..
Does the Kids know the history of the Lion Dance..
Or have they even seen a Dragon Dance??
Or even seeing these dudes performing ontop of the huge logs!
As the writer grew up,
He had few chinese neigbours..
Even though the angpow may not be as big as he thinks..
But the thought that comes...
The writer always remembers each and every uncles and aunties who actually given him those angpaws...
The writer just understood Chinese New Year as a new year..
But not as a concept where people long lost relatives get back together..
And have one happy Meal and so on...
But.. When he was a teenager,
His mom and dad used to buy clothings and gifts for the contractors family...
We grew up as if it was like christmas.. Sharing gifts...
Yesterday...
After years of culture of visiting their house for CNY
The contractors wife was so glad we actually came by...
We have nothing muchh..
Just drinks and voila...
Exchange gifts...And not forgetting the angpows!
Its about time when the writer and his mother left the house...
The contractor's wife hugged him as a motherly hug...
And in the car, the writer's mom told him...
"Did you know that we are the only ones who are close to her at the moment"
Writer was stunned...
"What about her family and stuff like that.. Tak kan she got no one" writer kept on driving..
"It's not about family... It's about how you treat them...How much we care for them.... Have you ever see their sibling visiting them" " And i quote you this... She even said that You and ur brother are like brother's to Jun Men (Jun Men is a Down Syndrome Kid who is 19 yrs of age)
"And you do realize where she it self doesn't expose him to many people other than us"
The writer sense that we were like part of her family....
